New Forums!

Today we have migrated our forums to vbulletin. This means we can offer more features on our website, and make things look nicer. Craig has already re-themed the forums to match our old theme that we had when using invision forums, and i've changed around all the groups etc. to work with the new software. With this change comes the addition of private quality assurance forums and groups, and much much more :) Enjoy!

It's out

1.1.1 is out, a day ahead of schedule after some firm pummeling by Bricker and dmb of the QA team at the last minute - one final bug was found and fixed, that would potentially let an oper gline more than the <insane> tag in the config allowed - but nothing major.

One thing which should be employed by existing networks is <securelist:exception>, to allow certain masks to get around securelist. By default, two hosts are exempted: searchirc and netsplit.de. Fun stuff.

Now, onwards to 1.2's branching hopefully - and if we're lucky, no more bugfixes for 1.1!

1.1.1

With further testing to 1.1.1 (now in trunk) having gone on, we're confident that we're close to releasing it, and expect to have it out by Sunday (or monday) providing nothing goes wrong.

Another addition to 1.1.1 is that a single port bind failure for the SSL modules will no longer fail the binding of *all* SSL ports, a great addition for networks with servers binding a lot of SSL ports.

Looking like the ircd is really shaping up now. :)

IPv6, and other 1.1.1 stuff

The 1.1.0 release has been quite a success, but a few problems or usability issues have been noted. One of these was the requirement for the use of 4in6, with which I have interesting information...

The need for 4in6 is *gone*. That's right, you can bind to IPv4 and IPv6 addresses normally in configuration files in 1.1.1 without any special tricks or hacks to make it work. Much kudos to Brain for his work on this, it's looking quite sexah.

Also on the 1.1.1 list of cool stuff in ircd is - letting you bind your listening to a different interface than you're accepting links over. This should be good for multihomed IRCd users. Again, kudos goes to Brain.

I also can't omit the work peavey has been doing to debug a few problems here and there and to nip them in the bug, namely a few potential problems on netsplit and in m_ident - great work.

1.1.1 is now in the polishing phase, and we expect it to be released soon - exciting times :)

InspIRCd Lives!

We set up the InspIRCd.COM and .NET domains primarily for the 1.1.0 launch, as a bit of a publicity stunt - in the leadup to the launch, we were busily deciding what to do with the domains after, out of this discussion was a blog born :).

Here, you'll get to see us rant, rave, discuss, and explain our decisions, ideas, plans, and generally keep you, our public, informed of what we're doing.

Hopefully it goes better than most blogs I know. ;)
